Excerpts
Introduction - What is a digital diet?
"...An effective diet is one that is going to make life-long changes, not a radical quick fix diet. It is a diet that makes gradual, sustainable changes. It's a diet that takes you to the goals you want to achieve in small steps...This is a digital diet. It is not designed to make instant change. Rather, a digital diet outlines a series of steps that will support you as you explore and investigate the amazing digital world we live in. You can't change the habits of a lifetime in an instant. This is the mistake many traditional diets make. Instead you have to gradually explore taking the steps that suit you and at the pace that meets your needs."
Chapter 2 - Searching
"...Advanced search option allows you to quickly refine the search using Boolean Logic fields (And, Or, Not) as well as defining date ranges, file formats, language preferences etc. By refining the search and being specific in your requests you should be able to quickly and simply find the specific information you need as opposed to the information that Google thinks you need...Being able to easily use search engines to quickly and accurately find the information you want means that you will have more time to do the things you want to do, find the best price, find out what is happening in your local area, stay up to date with events and news, and find businesses, bargains and friends."
Chapter 5 - VVOIP-Skype
"...They say talk is cheap but with Skype, talk, video and chat are free. If you are a Skype user you can talk or videoconference with your friends around the world for free. Whether it's keeping in touch with family as they travel, having conversations with friends, organizing business deals, family voice conferences or even professional learning, Skype is a simple-to-use, everyday tool that enhances communication and saves you money. It has been said that 90 percent of communication is non-verbal. When a person speaks to us face-to-face, we read a huge amount from their body language and facial expressions. A telephone removes this key information source from us, but with a video call we regain this enormous aspect of our communication."
Chapter 7 - Blogging with Blogger - Why Do You Blog?
"...At 7.15pm Andrew touched down in Memphis and caught the transfer bus to his hotel. He logged onto the free wireless in the hotel and blogged about his trip. He uploaded some photographs from the plane and hotel. He published the post. Andrew's family and friends received an update in their online RSS aggregator, Bloglines, telling them that Andrew had made a new post. They can all see his latest post and are able to leave comments. As he continues his trip he creates further updates (called posts). Blogs can be personal journals and diaries, or they can be the outside face of an organization. Many major corporations like Google have a blog they use to maintain conversations with their customers."
